Alex Wang, President and CEO
Alex Wang is the founder and chief spokesperson for 8D World. Prior to 8D World, Alex was a founding team member and Vice President of Business Development at Emptoris, Inc., a leading Enterprise Supply and Contract Management software company. At Emptoris, Alex was responsible for global channel sales and Asia Pacific region, accounting for one-third of Emptoris' total revenue. Alex led Emptoris’ efforts to secure the world’s top two system integration firms, IBM and Accenture, as Emptoris’ sales channels and delivered numerous Global 1000 client wins to Emptoris. Alex also played a key role in several Emptoris' acquisitions and was instrumental to Emptoris raising over $50M venture capital. Prior to joining Emptoris, Alex held various sales, marketing, consulting, and project management positions at Lucent Technologies, the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company.
Alex received BS in Applied Mechanics from Fudan University, PhD in Engineering Mechanics from Virginia Tech where he won the Paul E Torgersen Best PhD Dissertation Award, and MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management where he received the Alumni Leadership Award.
Rick Goodman, VP and Chief Product Officer
Rick Goodman brings a wealth of game development experience to the company. Prior to 8D World, Rick founded Stainless Steel Studios, Inc, where he served as the President and guided the company’s computer game development efforts. He led the design and launch of a series of historical multiplayer computer games, earning over $200M in worldwide retail sales. Prior to Stainless, Rick co-founded Ensemble Studios where he directed the development of PC game products. At Ensemble, Rick led the development of Microsoft’s Age of Empires, one of the most popular PC titles in the world, with total brand sales of over 500 million dollars. Rick also helped position Ensemble Studios for a Microsoft buy-out in 2000. Prior to Ensemble, Rick held various positions Lotus Development Corporation and Interactive Data Corporation where he helped direct development of large-scale software projects.
Rick has a BA from Southern Methodist University and an MBA from Boston University.
Xiongwen Lu, Dean, School of Management, Fudan University
Xiongwen Lu is Dean and Professor of Marketing at School of Management at Fudan University. Dr. Lu’s teaching and research interests cover marketing in China as an immature market, Internet marketing in China, service marketing, corporate reorganization, and change management. He has authored four books and published over three dozens of research papers. As a leading authority in Marketing, Dr. Lu has consulted for major multi-national and Chinese enterprises including Coca-Cola, Alcatel, MasterCard International, Unilever, Emerson Electric, Bao Steel, Shanghai Electric, Sunbeam, etc.
Dr. Lu is an Honorable Professor of the University of Hong Kong and Norwegian School of Management, Director of Chinese Marketing Research Center at Fudan University, and Standing Director of Chinese Marketing Association.
Dr. Lu received his PhD in Economics from Fudan University and was a Research Fellow and Visiting Scholar at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College, MIT Sloan School of Management, and the Fisher College of Business at the Ohio State University.
Alex Finkelstein, General Partner, Spark Capital
Alex Finkelstein is a General Partner at Spark Capital and joined the firm at its inception. He has led Spark’s investments in 8D World and 5min. Alex focuses on working with and investing in highly passionate entrepreneurs who enjoy leaving stable jobs to build transformative companies.
Prior to joining Spark Capital, Alex was the creator and producer of a number of television shows and Internet properties that he sold to major networks, including FOX, E!, Discovery, ITV1 (U.K.) and Yahoo. Alex’s shows all had major product integration components and were sold in partnership with Fortune 500 brands.
Previously Alex was a Principal at Seed Capital Partners, an early-stage venture capital firm that was formed in partnership with Softbank. Before joining Seed Capital Partners, Alex was an Associate at GrandBanks Capital, an early-stage venture capital firm that was also formed in partnership with Softbank. Alex also worked at Cambridge Associates, where he served as a Senior Venture Capital Research Associate and Senior Consulting Associate.
Alex Finkelstein holds a BA in political science from Middlebury College.
Lawrence Tse, Partner, Gobi Partners
Lawrence Tse is a partner and co-founder of Gobi Partners and has over 9 years of venture capital experience. Gobi is a China-based venture capital firm with over US$200 million under management focusing on early stage investments in China’s IT and digital media industries. Gobi’s strategic partners include IBM, NTT DOCOMO, McGraw-Hill, Sierra Ventures, Steamboat Ventures, and Nokia Growth Partners. Prior to Gobi, Lawrence served as an Associate for the Beijing Technology Development Fund backed by Beijing Enterprises and Tsinghua University Enterprise Group.
Lawrence holds a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an MS in Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management from Stanford University.
