Wiz World Cup Leads the New Trend of Learning Oral English Online
Wiz World Cup concluded with the competition winner receiving the Disney Reward on 15th August, 2009. This oral English competition was held by six Shanghai government agencies and the Shanghai Oriental Digital Community. It was held in anticipation and support of the 2010 Shanghai World Expo.
A Virtual World Makes an Oral English Competition Miracle
The competition attracted an unprecedented number of contestants who only needed a home computer and a broadband connection to participate: 14,580 contestants and more than 300 elementary schools in all. How was it possible for so many children to participate in one competition? The answer lies in Wiz World Online (WWO). WWO works similarly to a massively multi-user online role playing virtual world with rigorous oral English curriculum enabled by powerful speech technologies. WWO is designed by the creator of “The Age of Empires”—— Rick Goodman.

In the competition, there were many questions about Expo 2010, such as responding to questions raised by foreign visitors and answering questions about Expo 2010. In the Grand Final, each contestant also made an “I love Expo, I love Wiz World” speech.
Throughout the Wiz World Cup, many parents and children complimented WWO as an engaging, effective and motivating environment for spoken English learning.
